I just purchased a viking 901 serger, I hope it sews as good as my viking 535D serger that I just broke, I removed the cutting blades to do a many yards of serging without using the cutting blades, and when I but them back on the machine (the wrong way) and started the machine it broke one of my loopers...I just loved that machine it was from 1987 and made in sweden and sewed a perfect balanced overcast with all four threads...I will miss it unless I can find someone to repair it. I just moved to a very small town in IL. and many farms...to shipping is so expensive since it is heavy. any how I found the viking 901 for $103.00 and hole it will do the job...still waiting for it to come in the mail....wish me luck....and if anyone is selling a upper and lower looper for the viking 535D Please let me know? write to [emailprotected]

Thanks. I recently purchased this 901 and there is very little info about it around. I intend to set mine up for rolled hem so changing the plate is no problem. Reliability is all important to me.

It's so nice to come across reviews like this, where the reviewer has more than a week's experience on the machine! I've had my White 534 forever, and some of the same inconveniences go with my serger. Hard to replace these with one of the new ones where the price will take your breath away, and your old one's still working fine. Thanks again--undoubtedly there are used ones out there and your review will be a reference for them.

Thanks! Nice review of a serger you obviously like very much! I hear you on squinting to discern the colors. In artificial light my serger threading can be tough to see but with some Ott light on it it comes right out in the right color. And, yes, serging is really fun! :)
